Pilates
What is Pilates?
Pilates (Pi-lah-teez) is a great method to learn about core control, stability and endurance. This type of exercise is highly effective because it emphasizes on breathing technique, control and body awareness while ensuring a full body workout. Most people associate Pilates with Yoga. There are similarities in both exercises, however, Pilates use a series of small equipment for modification or to provide greater challenge of the core and extremities. Equipment (some with resistance) such as fitness circles, toning balls, flex bands, foam rollers and stability balls are often used.
The benefits of Pilates are endless! Your core is your "powerhouse" and with increased strength and stability, you will see improved posture, body mechanics and control, stronger abs and back with longer and leaner muscles! Quality over quantity based exercises are used in Pilates because of proper attention to technique and flow of movement (with control) and not momentum.
Anyone who wishes to learn and improve their core muscles should participate in Pilates. Beginners who have very little or no experience may wish to consider private instruction in order to understand the principles and how to apply them to each exercise.
Private Pilates Training, Semi-Private Pilates Training and Group Pilates Classes are available at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Please contact Maria for details. Group classes are 8-10 weeks long (1 class/week).
